Baby babbles
I've been trying to teach Aly about her different body parts, and to point to them when I ask. We've done the fingers, nose, mouth, etc... she's getting the hang of it, but still mostly smiles when I ask her where something is. Occasionally she'll halfheartedly point to something in that vicinity, but she's not quite there yet.
One thing she HAS taken to rather quickly, though, is the BELLY BUTTON. She learned RIGHT AWAY about that. One day she was standing up in her crib and I said, "Where is your belly button?" She just looked at me kinda confused, so I pulled her shirt up a little and pointed to her belly button and repeated the word to her a few times. She looked down at it, then quickly pulled her shirt back down. So I pulled MY shirt up a bit and showed her my belly button, which happens to be PIERCED. lol.... So she was ALL into seeing mine, and was poking around at my belly ring. WELL... now, when I ask, "Where is YOUR belly button?" she grins really big and tries to pull my shirt up and look for MINE. Sunday in church she was trying to pull Russ's shirt up so she could see his belly button... he didn't know why she was doing that until I explained the story behind it. Too funny.
Change of subject...
She's finally starting to talk a little more now. She's saying "Hi Cody" and "Hi Lucy" (our dogs) more clearly now. You can't TOTALLY tell what she's saying, but you can hear the change in sounds. It doesn't sound like she's saying "Hi Dada" for everything now. Cody went from, "Hi Dee Dee" to "Hi Dody" and occasionally she'll pronounce the C.... so we're getting there. Lucy sounds more like "Hi Du Dee" though she did say Lucy pretty clearly earlier today. I just wish she'd start talking a little more, but I know she'll do it when she's ready. She's saying a lot more consonants and everything, so I know she's on her way, and she babbles CONSTANTLY. She has her own little conversation while she's doing things.... I only wish I knew what she was saying!
Well, I'd better try and get some sleep... there will be more updates soon :-)

A quick post....
Today was a snowy, boring day. It was a mix of snow, then freezing rain, then more snow, which equaled Alyson and I being stuck in the house all day. Alyson made sure she added some excitement to the day today, though! She's currently in the "I want to crawl on the table 24-7" stage, so I'm telling her "no no no" all day long. I'll put her back on the floor, then she runs to the other end of the table and gets up on the chair, then is back up on the table. This process repeats itself for awhile, with her running back and forth to either end of the table. And the thing is, there is NOTHING interesting up on the table. I've taken everything off of it, because she'd grab it all off and throw it on the floor. So I have no idea why she finds the table so interesting. I tell her no and point my finger at her, and she just gives me a big grin, points her finger and goes, "No no no..." *sigh*
The other morning I put Dora the Explorer on (her FAVORITE show!) and she was running around the house, stopping occasionally to stare intently at the tv. I decided that since she was somewhat occupied, I'd take a minute to check my email. I glanced at the tv and saw that Dora and her friends were clapping and saying "Yay!", and all the sudden I heard clapping behind me. I turned around and Alyson was standing up on the table with a big grin on her face, staring at the tv and clapping with Dora. Never a dull moment. Needless to say, I now have to move all the chairs away from the table so she can't get up there. I'm sure it won't be long before she realizes that all she has to do is scoot the chairs over near the table so she can get up there again...
Some other things Aly did today that amused me:
She took her toy grocery cart around the house as she usually does all day, every day... but when she came back in the living room, I discovered she had filled it with a lot of my canned goods and boxes of jello.... and a shoe... and a wooden spoon.
I went outside to shovel SOME of the snow out of the way so the dogs could have a path down off the deck, and discovered a frozen, snow-filled shoe. Aly had stuck her Build-a-bear's shoe out the doggy door.
Earlier today when I went in the bathroom, I saw that the lid on the toilet was down. I lifted it up and found 3 Always pads and a bottle of shampoo in the toilet. (I have no idea how Aly got these things, because they are in the cupboard under the sink, which has a child lock on it!) I couldn't stop laughing!! I now know that, as advertised on the packaging, those Always pads CAN hold 10 times their weight..... in toilet water. Yuck.....
I'm looking forward to what adventures tomorrow brings.....lol
